Hi Overland! Thanks so much for being part of the tapes! Can you tell us a bit about the mix? Any tracks to highlight?!

Hey! Thank you for having me. This mix is full of new tracks from friends. Went with a lot of UK flavours for this one, some stand-out tracks for me are by Priori, Sard & Purelink.

I remember playing a record of yours, which came out on Naive, a lot a couple of years back. Anxiety… (just went back to check I wasn’t making this up lol) was my fave track on the EP! I also particularly loved the Void Function EP you put out too, i’m listening to NASA whilst typing this too. How long had you been writing music before this and how did the Naive release come about?

I’d only been writing music for about a year before my record on Naive came out. I cold emailed Inês my demos in late 2018 I believe, she liked the tracks and signed them right away! I was pretty blown away in all honesty.

We love a good party over here, I know you ran a great party called Freak Hour. How long was that for? I had a little look online and found that you stopped the party when the venue closed. What parts do you miss the most about running a party? Is there a particular show that stood out for you?

I ran Freak Hour for a solid two years. It was great - I tried to bring the heavy music I enjoy over in Europe to Canada as best I could. Everyone who played Freak Hour was excited to be able to rinse the bangers in their crates, and I think the dancers enjoyed the harder fast side of music that the event encompassed. I will bring Freak Hour back when the time is right, and my favourite show to date was the Halloween show with Softcoresoft, Adam 2, Fabasi and myself. I think we had something like 500-600 people show up to this small warehouse lol. It was raging.

Loved your BR in Montreal. But i gotta ask, how TF did you manage to DJ the whole time with it snowing on the decks haha. Epic. That brings us on nicely to CANADA. I only ever hear amazing things about this Canada and a lot of friends have moved there, was meant to visit Vancouver & Toronto in September but, well, COVID, so we’ve had to delay (again ghhhhhhhhh!*@)

BUT I’d love to hear what it was like growing up and partying in Vancouver? Is that part of the reason you got into dance music?

It was kinda hilarious how that came about - my agent emailed me saying I was booked for BR Igloofest and I was thinking it would be at a cool indoor venue only to learn it was going to be in a literal blizzard outside. I made sure to buy a snowsuit and wore like 5 layers underneath. To be honest it was stressful as the CDJs were getting absolutely soaked and the whole time I was like “oh god please don’t let me die on wet CDJs.”. I actually grew up in a small town in Alberta, I moved to Vancouver in 2017. I got into dance music when I was 17, bought my first pair of CDJs and a set of turntables when I was 18, moved to London, England for a brief moment when I was 20 to experience the dance music culture there. When I came back to Canada I decided I wanted to try to do this DJ thing more seriously.

Best clubs/parties that aren’t to be missed or that you have played at back home? (+ Toronto in fact if you have any recommendations!)

Best clubs? Probably Dolly in Vancouver, Transient in Edmonton (RIP), Hifi Club in Calgary (RIP), Bambi’s in Toronto, Datcha in Montreal. So many great spaces in Canada.

It’s safe to say that the last 18 months have been pretty great… I totally miss just standing in a room for hours/finding a corner and slowly dripping with sweat from dancing/DJing in front of people, all the above. If you could pick one place and one moment to fast forward to, with you in a club, partying, or DJing, what would it be?

I would fast forward to somewhere where all of my friends would most likely be, probably Bass Coast Festival which happens in the west coast of Canada. That, or some dark sweaty mess of a place in Berlin. :)
