OSLCTS.001 TOMMOSINI
‘Another Dimension’ curator Tomossini features in our first instalment of Origins Selects.
Born in Gloucestershire, formally based in Bristol, now back in the Cotswolds, Tomossini features in our first instalment of Origins Selects. The now South West native caught the Origins team ears back in 2018, when we stumbled across his unsigned ‘Another Dimension’ EP having heard Move D unleash the beauty at Freerotation. The sleek, stripped back house tracks delivered a soothing sense of laid-back warmth with their minimalistic approach.
'Another Dimension' transports you through the galaxies via a combination of dreamy pads, crisp percussion, full-bodied bass and those sensual deep tinged vocals. Future classic in the making. The A2 'Don't Stop' carries on the U.S flavoured deep house with a vocal house track that wouldn't be out of place coming from the shores of Chicago, masterfully intertwining a bumping bass-line, soft organs and those introspective and luscious vocals.
When Tomossini isn’t writing music, he can be found delivering hand picked organic fruit and veg around the luscious green hills of Avon and at the time of writing this, he has been busy fulfilling orders allowing hundreds of people to stay safe inside their homes during this trying time!
What have you been up to in the last few weeks?
I’ve been so busy for the last few weeks. I live in a small farming village in The Cotswolds where we’ve been pretty cut off from local delivery services so me and a couple of friends of mine have started a fruit and veg delivery service. We’re now delivering nearly 100 boxes a week to locals wanting to avoid going to the supermarkets. I also make cider so have been selling a lot of that and almost certainly drinking the profits at home!!
What was your inspiration and direction behind the EP?
The two tracks on the EP were made when I moved to Bristol in 2011. I was living in a tiny box room with only just enough space for the basic set up I was using and a gecko I inherited from the previous tenant 😂. I’d been to Freerotation and went mad for Jus Ed’s set that year. Think a bit of that crept into the music I made after that. It was also around the time that Steve Jobs died. The idea of using the vocal I (i)don’t stop was a little nod of thanks in his direction.
How long did it take to bring the 2 tracks together?
The two tracks were made immediately after one another in the space of a week. Sometimes tracks take ages to make, but these two seemed to slot into place nice and easily.
How and where did you come across the vocal samples? What about them caught your ear?
I wanted something soulful to tie in with the music I was really into around that time. I’d like to say there was a lot of thought and searching that went into the choice, but it was a “free vocal sample” search that lead me to them...
Have you any releases planned for the near future?
Maybe... I’ve been working on a few things. I’ve got a few ideas for an album that is nowhere near being finished but is quite an interesting concept. Finding the time to sit down and start writing is hard though. It’s more therapeutic to sit and listen at the moment. Hopefully soon I’ll hit a purple patch and finish off some tracks and turn the 64 bar sketches I’ve made into something more interesting.
How has this crazy time in life been for you?
Stressful, uncertain, busy, worrying... I suppose the main emotion is that I feel lucky. I’ve been able to work, I’m lucky to have a place in a really quaint, isolated part of the country with a garden and miles of fields out the back to walk the dog in. My grandparents live in the same village so it’s been nice to be able to check up on them and take some shopping round. Miss the local boozer though, would love a cold pint.
What are your plans for the summer?
I had a Glasto ticket. I had a Freerotation ticket. I was supposed to be putting on a few parties in local pubs. Who knows what will happen. Hopefully we’ll be safe soon. There’s a going to be some mad parties when we’re all safe, that’s for sure!
