Softi Mix

See this SoundCloud audio in the original post

London local Softi is taking over Tapes #74 with an exploration of her love of the wonky world with weird and obscure sounds at 140-160bpm.

This mix is influenced by Softi’s obsession with footwork and deep tribal club tracks, so expect soft bass, odd melodies and tribal vocals to catch your ears and melt your body — keeping that soft balance of UK sounds. Enjoy!

Thanks for getting involved in our Tapes Series! Can you start by introducing yourself?

Hey! I’m Jazz aka Softi and I’m a DJ & producer based in SE London ☺

Tell us about this mix - where was it recorded and favourite track inside?

This mix was super fun to record! I did it in my vibey room in Camberwell, where I do most of my mixes ☺. I wanted to create something that represents me as a sound! Deep, dark, and twisty…something to really enhance those emotions and senses. I love blending tracks or genres that wouldn’t normally go together but create a new hypnotic sound!

What is the ideal setting to listen to it?

Hahaha this one is always a funny one because I like to record mixes that people can get lost to. This one ideally would be for cooking on your ones with a spliffy hahaha. Or in Ormside projects with a dark setting.

Tell us more about your involvement in radio/projects you’re working on atm.

I have a monthly resident show on Rinse Fm where I decided to take down a different avenue which is when my concept Cozi came along. I love moulding ambient, downtempo music into deep jungle and footwork creating soundscapes that stimulate your brain. Cozi w Jazz now Softi is a show that does exactly that with guest mixes from some of my favourite DJ/producers who share the same visions as myself like Soreab and this month Porter brook. Cozi is a platform, party and radio show which is focused towards a more positive environment/mental health within the underground music scene. I recently teamed up with two of London’s iconic parties Local Knowledge and Terra Obscura, throwing a full sensory night, booking artists like Kia, Amelia Holt, Yumi and GiGi which was a success!!!

How did you get into DJing? Any tips for people that are just starting out?

I always had an interest in it and grew up surrounded by dancehall, jungle, reggae, and R&B but it was in Manchester just before the pandemic I decided to invest in some equipment and start making some mixes to put out. A lot of my friends from Uni in Manchester are all sick Djs and really pushed/supported me when I started. Hence the name change! I’d say if you are surrounded by people who share similar interests or have equipment just get involved! Don’t be scared to fuck up! If you have some spare doe then definitely invest in some equipment of your own and practice!

Any standout gigs/festivals from this summer?

Definitely playing Fabric b2b with my G Bluetoof! The energy was amazing and as if we closed main room! Was toooo fun ☺

I ended my summer with Draaimolen in Holland which was the best festival I’ve ever experienced!! Sound, production & energy was effortless! Floorless in the UK was also a highlight, the best UK festival around, small, intimate, unreal tight lineup!

Who have you been listening to this year?

I’m literally obsessed with everyone this year. There’s too many to name & loads of different labels releasing pure power this year! I love Woozy atm though!

Where can we expect to see you over the next few months?

Can catch me at or:la’s residency takeover at Phonox this month on the 21st October and then Corsica on the 28th for the floorless takeover b2b w Cam Joon!!

Thanks for being a part of the Tapes series!
