Hi Poppy, welcome to the Origins tapes series! Can you tell us a little more about yourself?
Hello! My name (DJ and real life) is Poppy. I am a music lover and sometimes DJ.
Can you let us know a bit about the mix? What was your process when recording it?
I recorded it in my lil room over in east london, with my shoddy set up! My mixer actually decided to die halfway through so had to give it another go. I put a playlist together of tracks I had to play and just went with it. The sounds are definitely a representation of what I like listening to club-wise - big variation and lots of dark experimental sounds.
What is the ideal setting to listen to it?
* Warning * - not a chill mix! I’d get moving to it whatever the reason may be :)
As a person who wears many hats in the music biz - tell us more about your history in the industry and what projects you’re working on?
I have worked in and around the music industry for the last six years or so. I started in venues and gradually got a knack for what I am good at. And now here I am! I am taking a break from full-time work and focusing on my vinyl grading service plus figuring out what my next move is. Exciting!
Tips for someone wanting to get their foot in the door?
Get stuck in - if you have an idea, go for it! Putting yourself in any situation where you might meet people and have a chat is definitely a good idea. That’s pretty much how I started out :)
Who have you been listening to recently?
The recent Michael J Blood album(s) & Shygirl! <3 <3
Standout gig this year? Could be one you played or someone you saw.
Neighbourhood @ FOLD - first club night in a WHILE and my god, it was a goodun. Also big mention to Field maneuvers for throwing the best festival i've ever been to. I haven’t been playing much… (book me!)
Thanks for being a part of the Tapes series!
