Hi Melle, How's it going!?
Hey Guys - all good, great to be back here discussing tunes with you!
Tell us a bit about your mix, how did you go about putting it together?
The mix is a collection of some of my favourite house tracks at the moment, a mixture of Deep and soulful with a dash of Afro! From producers and DJs such as AtJazz, Joey Negro, Crackazat, Louie Vega, Sean Mccabe and many more! There's an exclusive in there from Sef Kombo & Louie Dunmore’s new label Sondela Recordings on Defected! The idea was to bring sunshine into your lives considering there’s clearly a lack of it this May!
Favourite track?
That would have to be Joey Negro, Akabu - Another World (Andre Lodemann Mix). This track gives me chills everytime, not to be morbid but...play it at my funeral!!
I read you got into music at 14! That feels a good age to be getting started. (Tbh I have no idea if that’s early or late, I played the recorder for a bit at school (LOL) and then didn’t start DJing till about 18). How did you start out in the scene? And what led to you releasing music later?
Hahaha - gotta love a bit of recorder! I started making music on a course at The Roundhouse Camden on a summer course and never looked back - I loved the fact you could start with a clean screen and an hour later leave with what I considered a JAM! I studied a Music Technology Specialist Degree at the University of West London, and I made my first EP ‘Blossom’ as my final dissertation! It was pretty much go from there... ‘Blossom’ then got picked up by Jamz Supernova, and I ended up releasing an EP on her Future Bounce label called ‘Intersection’, the result of fusing my love for Jazz, Neo Soul and House Genres, featuring Tiana Major 9, Intalekt. Lay Full Stop and Oli Hannaford - and nothing makes me happier than DJing and producing this music, putting on the producers and artists I love through everything I do.
I’ve been listening to your Reprezent Radio Show. Love the vibe on these. How long have you been doing them? I’m sure people would love to hear how you got into Radio?
Alongside the time making music, I hosted a show on Reprezent Radio called ‘Brown X Blue’ alongside my co-host Blue Canarinho who I met in uni. We did the show for 4 years before and was known as ‘The Home Of New Age Smooth’, interviewed some incredible guests including Little SImz, Jordan Rakei and Jarreau Vandal before parting and exploring our love for different genres at the beginning of 2020 - mine being soulful and deep house! I’m now fully in the swing of my own show which airs on Reprezent Monday Bi Weekly 7-9, interviewing the likes of Anane Vega, Dave and Sam, Hadiya George, Sean McCabe, Klevakeys + more. This September will mark 6 years of Radio for me!
Best memory about music growing up?
Being in Omar’s Music video for his track ‘Dancing’ aged like 14 in pink pajamas hahaha - good times.
As this is a mix, quick-fire Q - Printworks, October 2021, opening night, and you’re on the closing set, 5000 people watching you, pick your final tune...
Groove Addix Ft. Annette Taylor - Faith (Dominic Martin and Spin Science Tronicsole Dub). The bass and breakdown in this song are crazy, matched with those heavenly Synthy Strings - can't wait to hear it LOUD and feel the thump in my chest!!!!
