Thanks for getting involved in our Tapes Series! Can you start by introducing yourself?

I’m Meg Paine, a DJ born in Essex & currently living in East London.

Tell us about this mix - where was it recorded and favourite track inside?

I recorded this on my cute lil set up at home, it’s a groovy power hour incorporating all my favourite elements and sounds from the 90s; progressive & wiggly tech house with a euphoric trancey atmosphere. Most of them are tracks from my record collection, Scorchio by Sasha/Emerson is my fav as it’s one of the first records I bought, and Belfast by Orbital as it’s one of my most cherished records.

What is the ideal setting to listen to it?

Probably ideal for pre party drinks with mates, or while cleaning your gaff if you’re into that.

You’re quite involved in the London music scene, from your Balamii Residency to working with Secretsundaze, Spiritland + more. Tell us more about these projects and your involvement in them?

Balamii took a chance on me when I was a baby DJ. I'm so grateful to them for giving me a platform while I was still figuring out my sound (which will be a lifelong process as tastes are always changing). The same with Secretsundaze, giving me my first look into programming and promoting in London. I’m looking forward to getting stuck in starting my own label/party this year, my taste is really wide reaching so I can’t wait to encapsulate that into my own project.

Talk to us about your digging process - what’s your favourite way to discover music?

I work in the record store at All My Friends, so I luckily get to pick up loads of amazing records from there, if I’m not getting them from there I usually look on Discogs as it’s the best way to find some really sick older stuff. Bandcamp too, loads of artists from back in the day release their discographies digitally, it can be a proper goldmine.

Who are you listening to right now?

I’ve been needing more chill and ambient sounds lately so i’ll usually stick on one of Purelink’s mixes, but while i’m working or trying to get something done i’ll usually put on something groovier, Kalahari Oyster Cult’s new mix series has been really good for this. I’ve always really enjoyed Alex Kassian’s and Tornado Wallce’s productions, especially a.s.o as I love a bit of Trip Hop.

Dream b2b partner?

Peach for sure, her sets are so fun!

Where can we expect to see you over the next few months?

You can catch me next at Tengu in Dublin and Bristol at The Love Inn, and some more to be announced in London <3
