Thanks for contributing to our Tapes Series! It’s so lovely to have you involved.
No worries, thanks for having me. Haven’t put out a mix like this since the Bleep one last year so it feels good to get this out.
How’s 2022 treating you so far?
Ngl it’s had it’s ups and downs already but ultimately I’m feeling fairly positive about everything.
Congrats on the releases last year including your killer contribution to the Molten Moods: Livity Sound compilation and the latest Pressure Dome comp! Got anything in the works at the moment?
Thanks! Feels odd but great to have music next to peers, friends, and people that I’ve respected for a long time. Forever grateful to those that want to support so big thanks to all that are involved.
Speaking of, you’re playing at the Livity Sound night this weekend! Bristol people, be sure to stop by. Being Bristol-based you seem to have adopted that signature broken techno/bass sound that we all know and love, but with your own take. Do you think your residency at PTS (Psychotherapy Sessions) has influenced your productions at all?
Yeah PTS has always been an avenue of exposure to new sounds and artists. Scott’s vision and bookings over the years has always been supportive of a really widespread of sounds so I’m definitely as much influenced by that as I am the broken/weighty stuff.
What do you like most about the city?
Not sure why it’s taken me this long but I’ve just bought a road bike and am thoroughly enjoying the simple pleasure of just riding about at the moment.
Let’s talk more about your productions - what’s the first thing you do when starting a new track?
Try not to think about it too much and just play I think. I’ve got a few different ways of creating ideas but I think the focus for me is to try and stay in that playful/fun/experimentation stage for as long as possible without feeling the need to start arranging stuff and creating a song. Although I’m also aware this probably does absolutely nothing for my output hahaha.
Describe your studio setup!
All in the box. iMac/MacBook - Ableton Live 10 and Reaktor 6 at the moment.
**Quick Fire** Favourite BPM?
Today it’s 170 but this has a tendency to change fairly regularly.
Dream lineup?
k means all night tbh,
Album on repeat this week?
The Untouchables - Grassroots
ASC - Defiance
